    2. Review of Behind The Mask (Nurses #2) by Renee AdamsReview done for Hooked on Books5 out of 5 starsCori Shawbell suffered unthinkable emotional and physical pain by the hands of a psycho in the prison where she used to work. She is scarred for life inside and out. She is not the outgoing, fun-loving girl she used to be. That monster stole everything from her.Now working in a veteran’s rehab facility, Cori is trying to get through life one day at a time. She was destined to help people and this [...]

    3. I loved this book. I did make the mistake of reading this book before reading Behind the Gate and I did miss out on some of the back story, but it did not stop me from understanding or enjoying this book. Cori was quite brutally raped and mutilated during the prison riot in the first book, and this is an important part of the story. Some details of Cori's assault are mentioned, but I do have to give a HUGE thank you to Renee for how she handled it. Renee was able to express the horror of the sit [...]

    4. When we leave off in Behind the Gates, we find Cori brutalized and disfigured by X in the prison riot. After months of extensive work to repair her broken body, she is left a shell of her former self on both the inside and the outside. She cant stand do be touched by anyone and cringes from the stares of revolution and pity that are constantly thrown her way in public. In an attempt to get her life in order and be independent, she jumps back into nursing. This time at a VA rehab center where she [...]

    5. This book is about the human spirit to survive. How a person can overcome horrific events and learn to live with the lasting emotional and physical scars afterwards. Cori was nearly destroyed after being assaulted and scarred very badly during a prison riot. She is barely making it through the day. Starting a new job in a military rehab unit begins a new chapter in her life where Cori finds her feet and starts to heal. Gage was badly injured in Afghanistan after being caught in a bomb blast wher [...]

    6. Behind the Mask is the 2nd book in the Nurses series and even though it could be read as a stand alone, I think it would be best to read the first, Behind the Gate to get the full effect of its characters and storyline. This is Cori's story. She is friends with Olivia and was beaten and raped in the first story. This is about survival for her. She is still going through a lot even though it's been months. I felt bad for her. She gets a new job and this is where she meets Gage. He has been though [...]

    7. Cori and Gage were both damaged and broken a point from life's cruel circumstances and both of them were locked in their own private hell. When Cori became a victim during a prison riot in the first book, it was ugly and horrible and I was sure she would never recover. When she finally emerges back into society it is to help patients who are dealing with traumatic injuries and it is there that she meets vet Gage and begins the slow road to recovery herself. This book had it allazy jealous women, [...]

    8. Cori Shawbell suffered unthinkable emotional and physical pain by the hands of a psycho in the prison where she used to work. She is scarred for life inside and out. She is not the outgoing, fun-loving girl she used to be. That monster stole everything from her.Now working in a veteran’s rehab facility, Cori is trying to get through life one day at a time. She was destined to help people and this seems like a good place to start over. Day by day she is getting used to being around people again [...]

    9. This is my first time reading this author but she sure has the power. By that I mean as soon as you start reading this you are right away captivated with exclamations running through your head. Cori even though she has been through tremendous life altering event she is on her way to a new job but this time in a different environment. Not to say she doesn't have issues that she does by the basket full, with right now still the victim. This author will show you how she will go from that to a survi [...]

    10. Book 2 of the Nurses series receives a strong 5 star rating. This is not a standalone and should be read in order. Storyline details and characters are intertwined. The originality of this storyline was refreshing. A unique and entertaining journey that was not plotted around the typical expectations of a relationship. Great storytelling with lots of personality. It was easy to feel the emotions placed into every word. A very respectful recognition/expression to sensitive subject matter. It was [...]

    11. Behind the Mask is book two in Renee Adams' Nurses series and it was just as great as the first. This one follows Cori, who is Olivia (from book ones) best friend, who was tortured by Xavier and was left scarred physically as well as mentally. She has some major ptsd from what happened but has to carry on with life getting another job at a Veteran rehabilitation center. I couldn't have picked a better place for her to work at if I was writing the book myself and her strength helped her patients [...]

    12. This book did not work for me. It had potential, but the need to sell the sex part turned me off. Cori & Gage had the potential to be a love story, but for Cori to be abused and a traumatic sufferer of PTSD after being disfigured & raped to being able to be touched by Gage was farfetched. Why is it that the only traumatic experience that a woman can go through is rape, yet when she meets the "hero" she is "miraculously" cured of all that ails her? This missed the mark and I can't in good [...]

    13. Received a copy of this book for an honest review. This book was an emotionally charged book for me. The storyline is so well written with such an in-depth view of the characters that I was mesmerized. Cori has been broken and beaten. She was involved in a prison riot where saying things went horribly wrong is a gross understatement. She is surviving but not really living.Gage suffers from unspeakable horrors as well. He is a war veteran who like Cori wears his scars both externally and internall [...]

    14. I was given a copy in return for an honest reviewI would recommend that you read book #1 (Behind the Gate) first so you meet all the players first and get a better understanding of Cori. I did enjoy this book and I will probably read more by Renee Adams. I liked how Cori & Gage's relationship develops throughout the book, even though it progressed rather quickly. The traumas that they both have experienced helps them bond in a way that only they can and I definitely want to read more about t [...]

    15. I went into this book not knowing how it would make me feel. Little did I know that it was going to make me stay up all frikin night and giving me 1000 feelings all at once. This book- the characters, the writing, and the whole idea of it just made me so happy. It shows that broken people, no matter what the circumstance can be loved and fall in love. It shows that love is beyond just beauty or looks. This book shows love in its true, raw form. Beautiful read.

    16. First off book 1 left me emotional, raw and tore up. So going into book 2 all those feelings came back and this one left me even more raw. My heart wasn't ready for Cori's story but I am so glad I did not listen to it and read it. And man o' man , Cori was so broken, so emotionally withdrawn. I don't know how to describe it. This whole book helped me pull my heart back and this is what this series needed so bad.Just amazing.Reviewed by JustaBooklovinJunkie♫ARC REVIEW♫

    17. I loved this book. After everything that happened to Cori in Behind the Gate, we get to see her story in Behind the Mask. She is a very strong woman, a survivor, she just doesn't see herself that way. She meets Gage, who is also wounded and closed off from the world. I love how they came together and helped each other heal.

    18. MaskI have to admit book 1 seemed to not be what I was interested in and opted to read book 2 instead. And now with that done, I really need to read book 1!!! I'm not sure why someone gave it less than 5 stars, a couple typos does not make for a bad read. So do your own reading folks.good storyline and conflicts are there. Crazy how real some of characters are, I live under a rock most days and thankfully I can read vicariously through these talented authors. ❤️

    19. I love that book two in the Nurses series brings us Cori's side of things starting when Xavier has caused the riot in the prison. I am sad for Cori, for the nightmares she is having after the prison riot. However, it is good to see her working on trying to move on from it and get some semblance of life back for herself. Gotta love the resident named Allyn and what he says to Cori when he sees her walk by in the hallway. He is a funny old man. I kept waiting for Cori to walk into Gage Knight's ro [...]

    20. Rating: 4.5*This instalment in the series I connected with more. To get a full understanding of the events that led to Cori's injuries, you do need to read 'Behind the Gate'.Cori feels completely broken on the inside and the outside after the horrific events of the riot. Permanently marked, she has escaped into herself as a protection mechanism. Her new job at a Veteran's hospital should be so much safer and securer than her previous job. She is determined to keep her head and get her job done, [...]
