Really the only worthy essay here is by Arno Schmidt, which sort of justifies why he is one of the very few authors in this anthology who is still known today (besides Heinrich Böll, who is more known for his political opinions and Max Brod, who is just known for not burning the complete works of Kafka). The rest are mostly terribly cowardly written, circumventing the actually very basic question; some are intellectually insulting (Heinrich Böll! Hans Urs von Balthasar!) but at least interesti [...]
